Review: Irene Sy-Go

Irene is probably one of the nicest among our suppliers. And the most poised at that, I think! Thoughful to boot. When we were getting started with the makeup, I was coughing a bit, due to an itchy throat. It was Ms Irene who took the initiative and called a staff in Ville Sommet to bring us drinking water “because the bride is having some coughing spell because of dry throat”. Now who wouldn’t love her?

As for her team’s output, I would probably let the photos tell the rest of the story. Hair by the way is by Rica. I love the hairstyle she did for me during our trial makeup but because of a certain request I had, Rica did it this way. Not so bad, I think.

pretty ladies! i wouldn't be surprised if they already bookmarked Irene's homepage and phone number

And oh yes, I wore this green dress during preps. I fell in love with a simple wedding dress in an old Martha Stewart Magazine cover. Out of wanting to deviate from the norm of wearing a bathrobe or akin to it during preps, I requested tita Linda (Linda Dee bridal) to make me a cocktail dress with the bodice similar to the one in the magazine. Tita Linda made a lime green one. It perfectly matched with my bouquet to complete our colors. Heart!

packages, packages!

I just love opening gifts, packages, mails. There’s just something novel about the moment you received one and the moment you open one. Ahhh! And one boon with staying at the house is I can receive the packages myself. I hope the delivery guys doesn’t think I have such a weird smile as I sign the receipt forms. 😀

Received Ate Weng’s package from Singapore a couple hours ago. Yey!! Looking forward to when Hubby gets home this evening so we can open it together. 😀 Thank you for the wedding gift Ate Weng!

Argh, too bad I wasn’t able to take a picture of the package I received from Apple, a w@wie sis who sent me her copies of her Japanese lessons. So nice and thoughtful :). One of the reasons why I really am very thankful I joined the group. 🙂

10 hours after. I really love how our family and friends who gave us gifts really did grant our wish. They gave us cash gifts. Helped a lot indeed in lessening our baggage when we flew back to Yokohama. No plates and pots and whatnots to carry back home. Plus it helped with our charitable cause. But I loved even more how some went out of their way to keep to our theme as well. Will blog about them later. But for now, Thank you Ate Weng, for keeping to our colors! 😀 Happiness.

took this picture using my phone cam so colors didn't come off as it really is. The colors ate weng chose were perfect for our motif

laundry string photos

I was instantly charmed when I saw this idea on a bridal website. When Erika suggested it, I was really into the idea already. But Hubby is shy in sharing pictures and I have to consider him.

Thankfully though, more than a month before the wedding, Hubby was already very much convinced with this idea. Was very thankful as well that his family, Otosan and Okasan, was very generous in sharing their pictures. The time when we scoured their family albums was actually one memorable time for me. Because even Obachan and Ojichan were taking out old photos that they were keeping in their drawers and shared them with everyone in the dining room. I particularly love that moment when together, Obachan and Ojichan were pouring over the old family album, laughing and pointing out something on the picture. Sweet.

We displayed a hundred pictures from our childhood up to our latest prenup. There were even pictures of the weddings of my parents’ and Hubby’s parents.

But having this string display earned us more than having something to display during reception.

We also earned memories as we “unearthed” old memories. Lovely.

I requested Hubby to buy the wooden pins at the last minute. Good thing that his flight to Manila for our wedding was in the evening so he had a few hours to drop by the 100yen-store in Kannai to buy these wooden pins. And yes, he had his guitar and big luggage with him when he went in looking for these pins. Thank you Hubby! 🙂

to be featured or not to be

The whole while we were having our preps, along with dreaming for a beautiful outcome of our wedding, I dreamt as well on being featured on a Martha Stewarts Philippines magazine or on bridal wedsites like Bridalbook.

Now that our wedding is all done however, and that I had the beautiful wedding I dreamt of, somehow, the dream on being featured on bridal magazines and websites doesn’t appeal as much to me anymore. I have great photos, and I can just easily submit them and then I’d only be a few steps away.

But then what was previously a dream isn’t one anymore. At least for now.

Probably, after a few months, or years(?), I’d change my mindset and want to get featured again. But for now, posting our pictures on our wedsite is more than enough for me.

Review: Jamsy (Lights and Sounds)

I think I would let the pictures speak for themselves for my review on Jamsy. All photos are raw unedited photos from Dino Lara, save for the added text.

As for the Sounds part, we only had one technical problem with our Sounds. Hubby and I were about to start our performance and I was about to make some spiel on our first song. The mic given me however, refuses to work. It took a minute or so to get the emcee’s (Ingrid) mic. It was great from there, however. Apart from that minor problem, everything sounded real great!

on towel holders, formalities and melons

On paper towel holders. Scoured the whole of Gumyoji, Bandobashi and Kannai for 100 yen shops but I still haven’t found the paper towel wooden holder I had in mind. Similar to this one, yes.

I bought one during my Japan stint last 2007 in a 100-yen shop but I just couldn’t find a wooden one now (they have the metal and plastic ones). I can buy in upscale malls but somehow I can’t accept that I am buying something that costs more when I can buy the same kind in a 100-yen shop (not all 100yen goodies are of good quality though). The one above sells at £3.49. So, the search continues…

On formalities. Now, whenever an acquaintance, say an office acquaintance you have only just met recently would ask you “how are you?” I think one would instantly reply, “i’m good” or “i’m ok” without really thinking about your current emotional or physical state. For some, the how-are-you question is more like the small talk that’s prelude to more small talk. You don’t really think about what you answer. Anyways, when you’re asked the how-are-you question, etiquette would make you ask the same question back. And if ever you encounter a person who deeply thinks about his/her answer to your how-are-you question and who may answer more than “i’m good” or “i’m ok”, do listen closely. True people like them are hard to find.

On latest craze. It’s the melon season. You can buy a perfectly-ripened-can-eat-immediately whole melon at 200yen. I was afraid to buy at first because I don’t know how to judge if it’s ripe already or not. I took the plunge. And it was worth it. Perfect for our 1st month celeb.
