successful tummy time and the smile it brought forth

As urged on by my reference materials (both Japanese and Western), I started tummy time last week; whereby I give Yui some time off on lying on her back by laying her down on her tummy which would help her exercise her neck muscles. It makes her fussy after some time though so I only have her on it for a couple of minutes or so.

When I started last week, she can barely lift her head, as expected. She would lift her head a bit, like 20 degree angle, then have it back down again. Sometimes when I put her on her tummy it happened that her head is a bit raised. But after a few seconds on her tummy, she’d put her head back down and she’d only be staring down trying to lift her head as I encourage her.

This morning, her head was down when I laid her on her tummy. And then lo, she lifted it! And a pretty 45 degree angle at that, with her shoulders besides! I was gleefully cheering and clapping that she looked surprised at my behaviour. And because she was focused on me, she held her position for a long time, which made me even more joyful.

A minute after, when I was already hugging and cuddling my daughter, she must have felt my happiness and hence gifted me with her first real smile, never knowing that she gave me yet another reason to be happy. She has been smiling ever since her first week. But it’s at nobody and only when she’s sleeping. This time though, she looked right at me and smiled a big toothless smile. Suffice it to say that my eyes were brimming with tears of joy.

Six weeks (today!) and counting, Yui anak. Please be healthy, this I pray.

happy birthday Mayumi!

It was difficult to surprise Mayumi with the cake. But at least she was surprised with the gifts.

It was my first time to take a long look on Shu Eumura’s fake eyelash collection for sale – there were more than 30 types!! I had these on shortlist for Mayumi.

I did well in choosing I think hehe, despite my inexperience.

I wonder if Yui would also grow up to be the kind of girl who’d wear false eyelashes on a daily basis.

Hubs’ colleagues in his department asked him what he wanted as their group’s gift for our newborn. A toy/gym? Or an air purifier?

So of course hubs chose the air purifier which also benefits me, allergic to dust as I am. I just find it weird though considering the huge price difference between a baby gym and the air purifier. But of course I’m not complaining teehee.

So the air purifier now sits in our bedroom whilst the Nanoe air purifier that we bought last year has been relocated to the dining area.

They also gave us baby books – which would benefit both me and Yui as well haha. About time I learn Japanese.

Thankful to hubs’ department mates. 🙂

And of course we’re so thankful as well to friends and family who gave Yui such cutie gifts. I may not be able to post them here in our blog but know that we are truly grateful and thrilled and excited to use your cute gifts on Yui. 🙂

sweet voice

My very first thought when I heard my daughter in the delivery room, even before they brought her before me, was that she has a sweet voice.

Now that her cooing and gurgling comes more often, I hear more of her sweet voice. And trust me, I melt every time I hear it. 🙂

crib bumpers

As I’ve mentioned before, Kidfolio is one of the apps I refer to on a daily basis to help me get more knowledge on how to take care of my baby Yui.

Today’s topic as highlighted below is about crib bumpers.

This doesn’t come as a surprise for me though as I’ve read a lot already about the dangers of and how unnecessary crib bumpers are.

Just this morning (and a number of times before that) I woke up with Yui’s face jammed right into the slats of her crib. I shiver at the thought what could have happened had I been vain enough to put a crib bumper on Yui’s crib.

Maybe they’re safe if you can be sure that your baby will be rooted on the same place you’ve laid her on in her crib. But of course you couldn’t be sure. So yes, crib bumpers are definitely no-nos on a baby’s crib.

When you were pregnant, you probably imagined a coordinated nursery complete with crib bumpers that matched the curtains. But crib bumpers can be dangerous. The American Academy of Pediatrics recently issued a reminder for parents to place babies on their backs in a crib without stuffed animals, pillows, and cushioned bumpers. There have been many documented cases where newborns were smothered by bumpers, and older babies can use them to try to climb out of their cribs. Small babies can become trapped between the bumper and the crib rails. So, for the sake of your baby’s safety, return bumpers to the baby store in exchange for something more useful, and embrace the crib’s sleek, clean look.
