hottest summer thus far

It is already very hot even in the mornings in that last Friday, even with sunblock on her skin, I made Yui wear her hat again. But she absolutely doesn’t like it at all that even when we were still in front of our door, she took her hat off. But I firmly put it back again on her and again and again repeatedly told her “it’s so hot, Yui needs to wear a hat” on our way to daycare.

Admirably, Yui obeyed Mom. But she was holding her hat the whole 15 minutes that we walked from our home to daycare.

With a frown.

She probably wants to tell her Mom she doesn’t like the big ribbon on her hat 😀 Don’t worry baby, Mom realised she doesn’t like it either.

It’s been terribly hot lately. I grew up in a tropical country, with my hometown much closer to the equator than Japan but it only gets humid there whenever it’s about to rain. So the actual temperature is almost certainly the same as what you’d really feel. And there’s the wind, there’s always the wind to help keep things cooler. At least in my hometown. It’s an altogether different story with Manila. The last time we visited during the peak of summer, it was unbearably hot in Manila (well, I was pregnant then so it really is hotter for me than usual).

With my weather forecast app though, where we usually get only the sun, rain, clouds, wind or snow, we now have a thermometer, indicating how unusually hot it’s gonna be where we live.

And yesterday, we actually had a “feels like 48degC” temperature (“feels like” includes consideration for humidity).

Hubs said this summer is the hottest in Japan in 1000 years. I wouldn’t argue. I wonder though how the people managed the heat – no airconditioning back then! Yikes!

Take care in this summer everyone!

the 80s exhibit at Landmark Tower

I was born just right at the turn of the 80s decade. I actually don’t feel old yet. But if you see that the decade you grew up into is on exhibit, then probably it’s time for a reality check?

There’s 80s fashion, music, movies among others.

Ahhh Ghostbusters. Karate Kid. The Blue Lagoon. The Labyrinth. Batman. The Ghost. Footloose. Gremlins. The Rocky series. I haven’t watched the other movies featured above but I firmly believe Star Wars (with Ewoks TV series), E.T., The Manequin, Neverending Story and Splash should be there too!! I guess though they’re just featuring those which were popular here in Japan. Ahh 80s!!

Oh yes, I just have to add this in –> Dirty Dancing!!

melon fiesta

People in the office are frequent travellers. Be it for business or pleasure. So we’re used to the secretary walking around, distributing some omiyage/pasalubong/present at 3pm.

We usually have chocolates, crackers or some sweets. For today however, same as last year, some guy with a humour thought of bringing along a different kind of omiyage. It felt weird but I’m more than happy (and thankful!) to have a break with it. Who can refuse a sweet melon?!

Jelly in PET bottle

When I buy from the vending machine, it’s usually very easy to select what drink I wanted. Sometimes I just look at the drawing at the label and decide what to buy without actually reading what’s written on it (for now I can only read hiragana and katakana).

Was very thirsty and I wanted something different from my usual caffe latte/milk tea/apple juice fare so I opted for this pear/nashi.

I only read about the “La France JELLY” after opening the cap and finding out that I can only drink a sip.

Now, why would one put jelly in a PET bottle? How can one scoop out the jelly?

an update
When I bought the bottle and realised it was jelly I bought, I shook it about three times every now and then for about one hour. No change. Turns out you have to shake it 10 times.

I don’t like jellies actually. But this one? I think I’m gonna buy again the next time I see one in the vending machine.
